Reactive Technologies has been named a Phase 1 winner of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity’s Digitizing Utilities Prize Round 3: Resilient Grid Innovation and selected to advance to Phase 2.
The Digitizing Utilities Prize brings together utilities, data experts and technology providers to develop practical solutions that strengthen grid reliability and security. The latest round focuses on using data and digital technologies to help address emerging operational challenges across the U.S. electric grid.
Revealing hidden oscillations through high-resolution grid sensing
Reactive Technologies was selected for its work using high-resolution grid-edge sensing to reveal hidden oscillations and improve understanding of how large loads and inverter-based resources (IBRs) interact with the power system.
High-resolution, time-synchronized measurements provide utilities with greater visibility into grid behavior that may be difficult to identify through conventional monitoring approaches alone. By directly measuring and analyzing grid conditions, utilities can detect oscillatory behavior and move from assumptions about system behavior toward measurement-based understanding.
Advancing to Phase 2
With support from PJM Interconnection and PSEG, we’ll build on this work in Phase 2, applying our capabilities with U.S. energy sector partners to strengthen grid reliability and security.
We also welcome utilities across the PJM footprint to join us in Phase 2, helping expand the work to additional areas of grid stability, including system strength.
