Job description: The main role of the Senior Power Systems Engineer is to support Reactive’s growing portfolio of electrical network measurement and monitoring solutions and their delivery to the customers globally. If you are a dynamic Power Systems Engineer with a strong track record of excellence and are passionate about playing a key part in the global renewable energy transition, then you could be right for our growing team of energy industry and technology experts to help our mission of delivering low carbon energy systems globally.  

Responsibilities    

  • Senior Power System Engineer will be responsible for supporting technical projects and elements of solution architecture, technical deliverables and ensure the highest quality for our customers. 
  • Support new product development by applying power systems modelling, signal processing, and/or machine learning and analysis techniques.    
  • Support customers and the sales team by describing technical content and driving sale conversion by earning technical trust with the customer – you need to ‘speak their language’ and understand their pain points to suggest and provide valuable solutions on time and at high professional quality.  
  • Support Project Managers in project costing, scoping decisions and translating customer technical requirements into actionable work items.    
  • Help identify and mitigate project delivery risks.    
  • Support proposal development and management reporting.    
  • Work closely with R&D and Operational functions to ensure new and existing products can be fully delivered.    

Required Skills

  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment without constant supervision. Exhibits personal drive and highly motivated.    
  • Innovative with deep technical knowledge of power system stability challenges and mitigation solutions globally.    
  • Ability to reduce complexity into key, scalable requirements and to communicate effectively both in internal and external contexts.    
  • Able to wear both technical and commercial ‘hats’, experience of techno-economic assessments and to communicate and engage effectively at senior/c level.   
  • Experience in scoping, delivery or operation of Grid, Utility or Energy Services.    
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.    

Desirable Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • PhD and at least 2 years industry experience or University Masters degree in Power Systems engineering and 5 years industry experience   
  • Background in power system modelling and dynamic simulations (i.e. DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/e, etc).    
  • Knowledgeable in power system challenges and phenomena occurring/developing as a result of the transition to net zero and the increased integration of inverter-based renewable energy sources to the grid, e.g. oscillations, low system strength, low inertia, etc. 
  • Experience in a R&D environment/role is a plus. 
  • Background and/or knowledge of programming (i.e. Python, Matlab, etc). 
  • Experience in costing and tendering response related work.  
  • Experience in presenting technical content in conferences.   
  • Experience in a client-facing role in addition to any operational roles.    
  • Knowledge of smart grid technologies from a DSO or TSO environment.   
  • Background in/knowledge of signal processing, and/or pattern recognition/machine learning techniques is a plus.  
  • Background and/or knowledge of system/architecture design – e.g. SCADA, data protocols and secondary plant configuration is a plus.
