2017: A Landmark Year for Reactive

10 January 2018

2017 has been a landmark year for the energy industry generally and for Reactive Technologies in particular.

In the UK alone, renewable generation was three times higher than the output of coal power stations over the last year making it clear that the energy transition is in full swing. The uptake of renewable and distributed generation is expected to continue in earnest in 2018 which will create a host of exciting opportunities, as well as new challenges, for energy system participants.

In the past year, Reactive has demonstrated the uniqueness of its technologies and services for businesses, grid operators and renewable generators:

In Q1, Reactive launched its demand side response (DSR) and energy optimisation platform Tradenergy on the French market with Carrefour Hypermarchés. Reactive optimises the supermarket giant’s assets from over 70 sites across France to deliver load flexibility from HVACs and food chillers without impacting their day-to-day operations. Carrefour participated in the first year of France’s Capacity Market, which provides vital balancing services to the French grid operator (RTE), earning the retailer new energy revenue streams.

In Q2, Reactive delivered a world first technological achievement with GridMetrix, a unique, cloud-based grid data measurement and visualisation technology that was successfully proven to accurately measure power grid inertia for the first time as part of an innovation project with National Grid UK. By providing real-time visibility of inertia, among other critical data points, Reactive is enabling grid operators globally to more efficiently and cost-effectively manage their systems while safely increasing the uptake of renewable generation.

In Q3, Reactive introduced an industry-leading Enhanced Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in collaboration with Total Gas and Power (TGP) that has won several competitive tenders. The innovative PPA leverages Reactive’s Tradenergy platform to reduce imbalance exposure, resulting in improved power prices for renewable generators and decreased risk for TGP.

As a result of these advances, Reactive secured a number of other high-profile customer wins and currently has over 0.5GW of assets under contract/management in the UK alone.

Throughout 2017, Reactive has also received a number of recognised and respected accolades for its technological achievements including the Frost & Sullivan Distributed Energy Company of the Year and the Energy Awards Innovation of the Year – Technology: Software/Digital.

In 2018, Reactive will continue to build on its proven technologies and deploy them with both existing and new partners and customers around the world. In order to support its ambitious expansion plans, Reactive is currently conducting a Series C investment round.
