Reactive Technologies Announces New Advisory Board Supporting International Growth Ambitions

5 September 2019

Reactive Technologies, an energy technology company accelerating the global transition to renewable grids, has appointed four industry experts to its new Advisory Board in support of the Company’s international growth ambitions.

The new advisors are Peter Bird (Berkeley Research Group – Hong Kong and Singapore), Guy Chalkley (Western Power – Australia), Britt Ide (Ide Energy & Strategy – USA) and Peter Molengraaf (The Netherlands). Covering a breadth of geographies and industry expertise, the newly created Advisory Board will help identify opportunities in target markets and provide thought leadership to the Executive team chaired by former CEO of RWE Npower, Volker Beckers.

There is an ever-growing, international need for Reactive Technologies’ unique inertia measurement service as electricity system operators (ESOs) around the world double down on efforts to manage increasingly complex grids to support renewable energy deployment. Reactive’s world first inertia measurement system (GridMetrix®) is of significant value to all ESOs managing the integration of large volumes of intermittent renewables; it was recently adopted by the UK’s National Grid ESO in a landmark commercial contract.

Marc Borrett, CEO and Co-Founder of Reactive Technologies said: “Our new Advisory Board brings together some of the best and brightest leaders from across the energy industry to help strengthen our understanding of target markets and connect the Company with partners and customers who are equally passionate about delivering the energy system of the future, now. Our technology is an enabler of the clean energy transformation underway in many countries. It allows higher renewables penetration by supporting system stability.

My Executive team and I are greatly looking forward to working with our new colleagues who will help Reactive Technologies capitalise on our wealth of in-house expertise and bring our highly innovative services to a number of new markets.”

Peter Bird is a Portfolio Director, Consultant and Investment Professional and a former Executive Vice-Chairman of Rothschild & Co. Peter is a Managing Director with Berkeley Research Group. He was formerly a Director of Vector Limited in New Zealand.

Guy Chalkley is CEO of Western Power, an Australian state government-owned transmission and distribution network based in Perth. Guy has over thirty years offinancial and operational experience across a diverse range of sectors operating across Asia, Africa, Europe, North and S outh America and Australia.

Britt Ide is an Independent Board Member of NorthWestern Energy, a vertically integrated electric and natural gas utility based in the USA. Britt additionally provides consultancy and advisory services through Ide Energy & Strategy and holds Board roles at a number of energy businesses and NGOs, including the Coalition for Green Capital and the Energy Policy Institute.

Peter Molengraaf is a.o. Chair of the Supervisory Board of Greenflux, an independent electric vehicle charging software company serving markets in Europe, the US and Asia. Peter is also a Member of the Supervisory Board of Vopak The Netherlands, the world’s largest independent tank storage company. He is formerly CEO of Alliander, a utility handling the distribution of around a third of energy in the Netherlands.

Guy Chalkley, CEO at Western Power added: “We’re witnessing huge changes in not only our own power system, but in many others around the world, with the rapid growth of distributed renewable energy. I’m excited to be working with Reactive Technologies to help answer the challenges – and highlight the opportunities – facing System Operators as they move towards a more intermittent energy mix.”

Peter Bird, Managing Director at BRG added: “In working across a number of international energy markets, I’ve seen the increasing challenges transmission and distribution system operators are facing as supply and demand realities become increasingly complex. Reactive’s offering will help not only mature markets undergoing energy transition, but will importantly enable emergent markets to leapfrog straight to a secure low-carbon future.”

Britt Ide, Independent Board Member of NorthWestern Energy added: “The dramatic increase in solar and wind power on the grid highlights the shift towards distributed and renewable energy. This shift brings with it increasing grid balancing challenges which Reactive Technologies is already helping forward-looking transmission operators address.”

Peter Molengraaf, added: “As we transition towards a world in which renewables power not only our homes but also our vehicles, ensuring that the stability of complex systems are well managed becomes even more essential. Reactive Technologies has a critical role to play in giving transmission and distribution grid operators the visibility they need to unblock system bottlenecks and I’m delighted to be supporting their expansion.”
